Psychadelic Assisted Therapy
Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy
I am currently undertaking advanced training in Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy (PAT), an emerging and highly promising therapeutic modality being revived globally for the treatment of trauma, PTSD, treatment-resistant depression, end-of-life anxiety, and a growing range of mental health challenges.
Since July 2023, Australia became one of the first countries in the world to allow authorised psychiatrists to prescribe MDMA-assisted psychotherapy for PTSD and psilocybin-assisted psychotherapy for treatment-resistant depression under strict therapeutic and medical frameworks. (tga.gov.au)
I am currently completing further specialised training with PIA (Psychadelia Insititute of Australia) and with MAPS (Multidisciplinary Association for Psychadelic Studies) in Italy this year and hope to begin offering Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy support services by the end of the year, in collaboration with trained colleagues and authorised prescribing psychiatrists.
While I am not an authorised prescriber of psychedelic medicines, I work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary care team to support clients throughout their therapeutic journey.
My role is to provide psychological support before and after psychedelic treatment, helping clients prepare for the experience, process emotions and insights that arise, and integrate these experiences meaningfully into daily life.
My approach is grounded in trauma-informed care, nervous system safety, and deep therapeutic support. I provide psycho-education, preparation sessions, integration therapy, and harm reduction support to help clients navigate this process with clarity, intention, and care.
Whether you are exploring psychedelic-assisted therapy through an authorised healthcare provider or seeking therapeutic support alongside your journey, I offer a compassionate and grounded space to support your emotional wellbeing, insight, and long-term integration.
The Three Stages of Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy
Preparation
Preparation is an essential part of the therapeutic process. Together, we explore your intentions, personal history, emotional readiness, and any fears or questions that may arise. This stage helps create safety, clarity, and a strong foundation for the experience ahead.
Dosing Support
Psychedelic dosing sessions are conducted under the care of authorised medical professionals and prescribing psychiatrists. During this process, individuals may access deeper emotional material, unresolved trauma, and new perspectives in a supported therapeutic environment. While I do not prescribe or administer psychedelic medicines, I may work collaboratively as part of the broader therapeutic support team surrounding your care.
Integration
Integration is often where lasting change occurs. These sessions focus on making sense of the experience, understanding insights gained, and gently integrating these learnings into everyday life, relationships, emotional patterns, and personal growth. Integration support can continue over time as new layers of understanding emerge.
Access, Funding & Rebates
At present, Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy in Australia is still relatively limited and can unfortunately be expensive due to the intensive nature of treatment, the involvement of multidisciplinary care teams, and the current lack of broad Medicare funding. Some private treatment programs in Australia may cost many thousands of dollars over the course of treatment.
However, access pathways and funding supports are continuing to evolve.
Depending on your circumstances, some aspects of therapeutic support may be eligible for:
-
Private health insurance rebates
-
Mental Health Care Plan rebates for eligible psychotherapy sessions
-
Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) funding pathways for eligible veterans
-
Potential NDIS therapeutic supports related to preparation and integration work
-
DVA now funds psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy for eligible veterans accessing treatment through authorised psychiatrists, and discussions continue around broader accessibility and funding pathways across Australia.
-
I understand that the financial aspect of accessing this work can feel overwhelming, and part of my role is helping clients explore safe, ethical, and realistic pathways of support while navigating this emerging area of care.
A Gentle Note
Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy is not a quick fix, nor is it appropriate for everyone. Thoughtful preparation, professional guidance, and ongoing integration are essential components of safe and ethical care. My role is to provide a grounded, relational, and supportive therapeutic space throughout this process.
